However, my wintery days of listening to the wind and rain on my cozy little boat are coming to an end! This last weekend, during the wonderful sunny days, my friend Alli came down and helped me start prepping the boat for sailing season! I had a list 2 pages long of things to get done ... but after about 20 minutes of "work" the day digressed to drinking beers and watching the pretty sun settle lower in the sky. It was a true tease for the summer days to come ...
We did however manage to tune the rigging a bit and check the mainsail (which is very pretty when up). I wanted to tackle the roller furling headsail, but I know nothing about roller furling and after looking at all the parts I realized I had no idea of how to rig it. So I'll wait until I can offer someone a beer who does know and they can teach me!
I did learn a valuable lesson in how to leave my dock. A skipper two slips up attempted to leave for an afternoon sail trip by spinning his bow around and trying to zip down with the current and make a sharp turn to speed out of the moorage. He might have made it if his engine hadn't quit. Instead he slammed into the dock downriver at about 4 knots. I think I'll be leaving my bow into the current and letting it push me back slowly while maintaining steerage when it comes time to leave the dock myself ... but thats just me.
For now the rainy days have returned and I will remain quiet content in my cozy little boat watching Netflix on my iPhone, cooking Top Ramen on my little alcohol stove, and reading the Hunger Games to understand why suddenly there are like a million little girls at the archery range when I go there to practice ....
Until Next Time
